4 CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED ANIME!

The late 90s and early 2000s were considered by many to be the golden age of anime with many titles being produced every year some of these titles attracted a large audience introducing many like my self to the genre for the first time. Due to the massive success of these titles and the sheer amount of anime  being produced at the time many hidden gems did not get the attention they deserve. Here are some over looked amine that are worth your time.

TRIGUN

Trigun was written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightow. The manga which was adapted into an anime in 1998 was animated by Madhouse and aired on TV Tokyo from April 1,1998 to September 30,1998 totaling 26 episodes.

The plot revolves around Vash the stampede and his two beautiful employees, Milly Stryfe and Milly Thompson who follow him around to minimize the damage caused by his appearance due to the large bounty of 60,000,000,000 dollars on his head.The show takes inspiration from American Westerns and puts a Japanese twist to it making it as epic as it’s superhuman gunfights!

Record of Lodoss War

Created from the aftermath of the last great battle of the gods, Lodoss and its kingdoms have been plagued by war for thousands of years. As a quiet peace and unity finally begins to settle, an unknown evil will stir.

An ancient witch has awakened, bent on preserving the island of Lodoss by creating political unbalance throughout the many kingdoms and keeping any one from maintaining central control. Only a mixed-race party of six young champions, led by the young warrior Parn, stand between this new threat and Lodoss’ descent back into the darkness of war and destruction.

Created Ryo Mizuno (a japanese author and game design  also the author of Record of Grancrest War) and animated by Madhouse it aired from June 30, 1990 – November 20, 1991. It had a total of 13 episodes.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor

Directed and written by Koichi Mashimo. The story revolves around Captain Taylor a carefree guy with an upbeat personality. His goofy and laid back nature tends to lead people to underestimate him.

If there are rules that he doesn’t agree with he simply uses his authority as captain to change them to his will. He knows very little about actually commanding a ship and leaves many duties to his lieutenants. The show aired from January 25, 1993 to July 19,1993 and has a total of 26 episodes.

BLUE GENDER

Blue Gender is co-directed and co-written by Ryosuke Takahashi. Blue Gender’s story takes place in a future where things have gone terribly wrong for humanity. An alien race of bugs know as the blue have colonized earth. A space station,Second Earth has been built as a safe haven for humans. Blue Gender aired from October 3, 1999 to March 21,2000.

Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water

Inspired by the works of French novelist Jules Verne (author of Twenty Leagues Under the Sea) and conceptualized by Hayo Miyazaki. The anime centers on Nadia a 14 year old girl whose origins are unknown, and jean, a young kind french inventor as they fight to save the world from Gargoyle and Neo-Atlantis. The anime aired from April 13, 1990 to April 12, 1991 and has a total of 39 episodes. It also won the 1990 Animage’s Anime Grand Prix Award.
