Disney recently released the trailer for Soul, a Pixar original scheduled to debut in June next year. Now every Pixar release is unique in it’s on way but what really makes this movie stand out is it’s black lead Joe Gardener who just happens to be a first for the studio.
In recent times entertainment media has become more diverse. As early as 2009 we already saw Disney releasing the likes of the Princess and the Frog, which for a myriad of reasons was not too successful, but since then the situation seems to have only improved.

More recently we had Marvel releasing the likes of Black Panther and Into the Spiderverse which for all intensive purposes were successes in their own rights, and who can forget the highly controversial casting of Halle Bailey as Ariel in the upcoming Little Mermaid live action adaptation, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before Pixar followed suit.

The trailer was warm and deep and from the looks of things Soul is a story seeking to deal with existential issues, but I think beyond that more than anything it seems to be a story of passion and discovery.
A chance for all of us to take a deeper look, and could there have been a better theme? I think in many ways this is Pixar also discovering another facet long hidden, it’s a brave new world one where dreams actually matter and are made real through nothing but unrelenting passion.
So in that spirit it’s definitely a wonderful time, a remarkable day and we just can’t wait to see Pixar’s Soul shine through as it always has!
