Attack on Titan’s Levin Ackerman needs no introduction. Throughout the Attack on Titan anime (and manga), he has time and time again proved why he’s the meanest, titan slaying, 3D maneuvering badass in the entirety of the franchise. Now that’s saying a lot considering the numerous other nut jobs walking about.

That said, Levi is without a doubt one of the most popular characters in the attack on titan franchise, consistently ranking high in popularity polls along with the likes of Eren, Erwin, Zeke, and Mikasa, in fact, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he is one of the most popular characters in all of anime.

So without any further ado let’s get into it, six things you didn’t know about Attack on Titan’s Levi Ackerman.

HE USED TO BE A THIEF

 

In the Attack on Titan prequel, Attack on Titan: No regrets, we get to see what Levi’s life was like before the survey corps. In the prequel, it is revealed that before Erwin ‘recruited’ him into the survey corps Levi survived through thievery, with his two closest friends Furlan Church and Isabel Magnolia, they stayed in Eldia’s underground city, living day to day and getting their daily bread through theft.

I know, it’s kind of hard to imagine Levi been nothing but a lowlife street urchin, but given his current disposition and general attitude, it does make a lot of sense. Props to Erwin though for spotting him early on and bringing him into the corps. We can only imagine how things would have turned out without him.

HE HAS TERRIBLE SLEEPING HABITS

Levi doesn’t sleep very much, according to Hajime Isayama he only sleeps for about two to three hours and I imagine that’s when he gets to sleep at all. As expected of someone who has suffered as much trauma as Levi has, he struggles to sleep, so much so that he doesn’t even bother to change his clothes or use a bed.

Levi usually sleeps sitting, catching a little rest when he can. If we were not certain before we are now, Levi is not human, I for one don’t understand how you can be so sleep-deprived and still have the vitality and fortitude to do half the stuff he does. We get it “special Ackerman genes”  but still, this is plain madness!

HE REALLY LOVES HIS TEA

I imagine Levi’s tea-loving nature came as a surprise to many but even more surprising is just how deep that love runs. He once wanted to open his own tea shop, had I not known better I would have thought he and Iroh were related! Levi takes his tea without additives and that’s only because he cannot afford sugar or milk as they are quite expensive but he doesn’t seem to mind though, as a cup is rarely far away.

HE IS OLDER THAN HE APPEARS

How old do you think Levi is? Let me guess, you’re probably thinking early to mid-twenties, well I’ve got a surprise for you, Levi is well past thirty, in an interview Hajime Isayama revealed the survey corps member is a lot older than he looks, stating that he is well past the age of 30. Though he did fail to mention Levi’s actual age, he did state with certainty that he is certainly past the age of 30. I know, heck he could even pass off for a 19-year-old.

HE HAS A REALLY WEIRD RELATIONSHIP WITH HANGE

It’s no secret Hange and Levi are pretty close but I’m not sure Attack on titan fans know just how close the two of them are. Levi was initially unimpressed with Hange’s obsession with the Titans, finding it very difficult to understand her, but since then he’s come to appreciate her intellect and rely on her knowledge and instincts when it comes to matters of the titans.

Most of us know all this, what a lot of us don’t know is that he forcefully bathes her by knocking her out and then proceeding to clean her. I kid you not, he actually does that to her, only those two know what’s actually between them!

HE ONCE SWORE TO KILL COMMANDER ERWIN

And last but not least, there was a time when Levi actually wanted to kill commander Erwin. Way back when he was still stealing under his uncle Kenny Ackerman, Erwin had to force him into the Survey Corps, as one can imagine Levi was not too happy with that, resisting at every turn and even threatening to kill Erwin when the opportunity arose. We all know how that turned out, now don’t we?!
