So with the second season of demon slayer currently airing we finally get to see Tengen Uzui the sound hashira in action. Tengen as a character fascinated me from the moment I encountered him, everything from his design to the swagger with which he carried himself. A true hashira.
In certain ways he is similar to Rengoku, his dedication to cutting down evil and his loyalty to those relying on him, but that is pretty much where the similarities end.
So who is Tengen Uzui and what is his deal?
TENGEN UZUI THE SOUND HASHIRA

Tengen is one of the strongest hashira of the current generation. He is the second physically strongest, surpassed only by Gyomei the stone hashira and is the fastest. In addition he is one of the most skilled, if not the most skilled as he developed his own breathing technique; the sound breathing technique.
Tengen has a rather flamboyant exterior, putting up a strong and confident front. He can be a bit rough and rather demanding of his fellow Hashira. Tengen has openly expressed his dislike of plainness. He believes everything should be full of color and have style, he has a caring side however.
Hidden behind his flamboyant exterior is a rather caring individual who goes to great lengths to help and protect others.
HE IS A LIBRA

Tengen’s birthday fall’s on October 31st making him a Libra. Okay I’ll admit at first I was a little surprised but I suppose in some contexts it does make sense. Despite been dealt a rather rough hand in life, all things considered Tengen has turned out rather well.
He is a rather balanced individual, a bit wild but calculated and composed when he needs to be.
HE ABANDONED HIS CLAN

Tengen grew up with his father and eight siblings, out of the nine children his father had only two are surviving, Tengen and another brother of his who he spared. A few of his siblings died because of the brutal training their father put them through and others were killed when they were forced to face each other and battle.
After surviving Tengen left the clan taking his wives along. Since then he has done his best to avoid been like his father and brother. Putting more value on human lives rather than focusing solely on the mission.
HE THINKS HE IS GOING TO HELL.

Tengen likes to joke he is going to hell. It is still unclear if he really thinks so but I personally think there is some truth to it. In many ways it is obvious he still is not over the things that happened with his clan but beyond that he has been shown to harbor a lot of regret about the the numerous lives he feels he has let slip out of his hands.
Tengen holds a lot of responsibility and it is only natural it weighs him down sometimes. He has however stopped making such jokes ever since he noticed how his wives react to them.
He has also been shown to have a slight inferiority complex as he compares himself to his other Hashira and it is well known much many others he looks up to Kyojuro Rengoku. That said it doesn’t matter what he thinks, I am sure there is a spot in Heaven for him.
HE IS A CHICK MAGNET

I don’t think I need to say much. His three wives says it all. Tengen is considered to be a rather attractive man. Even Zenitsu once commented on just how handsome it is.
His attractiveness has been recognized to the extent he even uses it on missions, employing persuasion where force may prove to be ineffective.
HE SHARES A VOICE ACTOR WITH FAIRY TAIL’S LAXUS

It’s no wonder he would share a voice actor with another chick magnet. Tengen’s voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi also happens to be the voice behind Fairy tail’s Laxus Dreyar. It does not end there but Konishi was also the voice behind Dragon ball Kai’s captain Ginyu.
TENGEN IS ALRIGHT

A lot of people have been wondering whether Tengen dies, be warned major spoilers ahead. Tengen’s death is no where near fortunately. He is forced into retirement after losing an arm and eye fighting Daki.
He happens to be one of the fortunate ones in that regard, but beyond that he is a genuinely chill person. A little rough around the edges but hey… no one is perfect. Not even the sound Hashira.
